My Gratitude Journal

Summer Sun Fun Days

Mommy life. Summer. Sunday fun days. Put those three things together and you’ve got a few of my favorite things for the month of June.

It was a hot June for us filled with heat waves and frequent trips to the swimming pool. Temperatures were over 100 degrees on some days. The electricity went out a couple of times at home. There was even a day at work when we got to leave early because the air conditioner wasn’t working in the whole building. That’s 10 floors of hot sweaty workers. It felt like we were working in a sauna.

But back to Sundays. Sundays are fun days for us. Sunday fun day is one of my favorite things. So I have compiled my Summer Sunday Fun day gratitude list for the month of June.

These are a few of my favorite things from June:

We saved a kitty! It was such a cute kitty too. Did I mention that I’m allergic to cats. Well, I am. So we weren’t able to keep him. He went to a good home but while he was in our home, we had fun playing peek a boo, feeding and petting him. He was shy and afraid while he was with us, so he kept himself covered with a blanket. It was actually a towel, but he looked so cute with it over his head like it was a blanket. Every once in a while, he would peek his head out of the blanket to look at us and as soon as we said hello, he would hide back in it. That happened a few times so I figured we were playing peek a boo. Josh named him Kitty Kitty. He also fed him. Kitty Kitty was too shy and scared to eat so Josh had to hand feed him. I think Kitty Kitty enjoyed that. I miss Kitty Kitty and I hope he is happy in his new home.

We did artwork! Okay, I can’t take credit for this because I didn’t do any artwork but my children did. Joshua did some paintings. He painted a picture for Father’s day for his dad. It was a picture of Roblox since it’s their favorite game to play these days. He also painted a self portrait. He has a beard in his self portrait.

I gave my daughter, Sabrina, a frame for her diploma and told her to decorate it. She made a modpodge collage. It turned out pretty good!

And the best part of Sunday Fun Days, hanging outside at the swimming pool. Today I am grateful for Summer Sunday Fun Days.

My Gratitude Journal

Why a Gratitude List?

June is here. It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a gratitude list. Spring has been a very eventful season. A lot of life changing events, good and bad, and for awhile, I was not motivated to blog. I finally pulled myself together to write a few posts in May, but they were mostly product review posts that didn’t require too much emotional thought.

So why a gratitude list? I remind myself that I started this blog to get me through a very emotional and difficult time. It was my gratitude journal.  I look through my old posts with fondness and a filled heart.  As I read them, I think back and remember life’s simple moments, “my favorite things”, which were listed in my gratitude list so that I can be grateful for everything and every simple moment that made me happy. Having a gratitude journal during an emotional and difficult time helped me realize that I have so much to be thankful for. Gratitude continues to help me through life and the difficult times. Gratitude continues to fill my heart with happiness.

Enjoy the little things in life for someday you will realize they were the big things.

Gratitude is being thankful for your blessings, even the simple pleasures and acknowledging all that you have received, including difficult times and challenges. Because even in that, you have something to be thankful for- a life lesson, an opportunity to grow, an opportunity to build your strength and character and to appreciate all that you already have.

Shifting your focus from what your life is lacking to one of abundance helps you LIVE fully in the present. It helps you to see what you already have to be thankful for.

By living fully in the present, there is no lack. By being fully present in the moment, there is mindfulness. With mindfulness, comes gratitude and with gratitude comes happiness.
