Gingham Shorts: McCall’s 8099

I’m getting ready for shorts season. I made these shorts during Me Made May. The pattern I used was McCall’s 8099 also known as #LinaMcCalls.

The recommended fabrics for this pattern are twill, poplin, cotton blends and denim. I used a gingham tropical suiting that I purchased from Fabric.com.

There were a few modifications that I made. First, I didn’t add the button closure on the sides to hold up the rolled part of the shorts. It didn’t work out because I am terrible at making buttonholes. It’s too bad because that was my favorite part of the pattern. Oh well, next time. I also shortened the length since I was not rolling up the shorts.

I really like the way the side front pockets look on these shorts. I also like the way the waistband looks. For the waistband, the pattern calls for 1 1/2 inch elastic so it’s pretty wide.

Cool and comfortable… Happy Sewing!
