Looking for some family entertainment this weekend? Celebrate Japanese culture at the Cherry Blossom Festival at Descanso Gardens! This weekend, March 12 and 13, is the Cherry Blossom Festival at Descanso Gardens. They will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge California 91011. Admission is $9 for general admission, $6 for seniors 65 and over and students, and children ages 5 to 12 years old is $4. Descanso members and children under 5 are free.
This weekend at the Cherry Blossom Fesitval, there will be guided cherry blossom walks at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on both days to explore and learn about the cherry blossoms. There will be entertainment and food. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., you can learn Origami, the art of Japanese paper folding. From 1:00 to 2:30 on both days, June Kuramoto will perform on the koto, the national instrument of Japan, at the Under the Oaks Theatre. In addition, the japanese flute will be played by musician George Abe throughout the garden from 3:00 to 5:30 on both days. There will be Japanese inspired food available for purchase at the Camelia Lounge at the Japanese Garden. View the menu here.You can even purchase cherry trees at the gift shop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
