My Gratitude Journal

A superb Sunday out with friends

Today was a fun day and it’s still going. As I sit here in the backyard, watching Josh enjoy his new mini pool, listening to him tell his cute little stories, counting to ten in Spanish, recite his simple addition and asking me to count all his basketball dribbles (305 was the most), I remind myself again that it’s the simple things.

I reminded myself this morning that I need to shift my focus to my side. Focusing on circumstances that I have no control over was driving me crazy. Serenity came when I focused my energy on what I have control over.

I am taking action. I am seeing progress. I am seeing change. On my side. Because…
I accept the things I cannot change, I have the courage to change the things I can and I am learning to have the wisdom to know the difference.

Today started off with lunch at the Cheesecake Factory with my friend, her 9 year old daughter, Noe, my 18 year old, Sabi and my 5 year old, Josh. While Sabi and my friend discussed college plans, Noe, Josh and I talked about summer plans and did my favorite thing to do in the world, act silly. Noe said I looked mysterious while I was looking at the menu so I figured why not practice all my looks. I really like Noe’s personality. She is very outgoing and personable. She is so cute and adorable. I think she is absolutely awesome.

Lunch was delicious. I ordered a small plate so that I can eat a cheesecake without guilt. Who am I kidding, I never feel guilty when I eat dessert. I sometimes wish I could eat dessert first or as the main meal. I just didn’t want to waste my tummy space on “real food”.

I ordered something new. I normally order hummus, which is also a small plate but this time I ordered the portobello mushroom, zucchini and avocado fries with dipping sauces. Yum!

It’s our routine after lunch to go to our favorite store, Anthropologie. I think it’s too expensive to buy clothes at this store, even off the sales rack, so I usually buy knick knacks, if anything at all. I reminded Josh that we bought his favorite stuffed animal, Jellydog, in this store. He got excited and looked around for the basket of “Jellycats”, (the real brand name for the stuffed animals). His face lit up when we found the basket and even more so when I told him he can pick a friend for Jellydog. Between the bear, the bunny and the gorilla, he picked the gorilla. I asked him what he was going to name him and he said Jellymonkey. I told him that the tag said that it’s a gorilla. He insisted that it was a monkey and everytime I called it Jellygorilla, I was corrected. So Jellymonkey it is.

I also bought myself something, a new book to read, Zen and the Art of Happiness and cloth napkins. What’s really adorable is that I noticed when I took the tag off the napkins that each napkin says dab, blot, wipe, and pat. So cute.

And that wraps up my superb Sunday.
